alber elbaz - designer profile

Alber Elbaz was born in Casablanca, Morocco. He was raised in the suburbs of Tel Aviv. He studied at Shenkar College of Textile Technology and Fashion, Tel Aviv. After graduation he flew to New York where he became the right hand man of American high society designer Geofrfrey Beene.

In 1996 Elbaz took over as head of pret-a-porter designer at Guy Laroche. Elbaz was appointed Artistic Director for Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche womenswear in 1998, taking over design duties from Monsieur Saint Laurent himself.

In 2000, Elbaz left the house of YSL for Gucci Group. And he left in 2001 when he was appointed Artistic Director for Lanvin womenswear. It looks like here, at the Lanvin house, he found his place.

The Lanvin house was founded in 1908 by Jeanne Lanvin, when she opened a children's clothing department in the millinery shop, inspired by the wardrobe created for her daughter.

The originality of Lanvin garments, constructed in such a masterly fashion, lay in their surface detail and embellishment.

Elbaz began designing the luxury collection and has been making considerable progress in reviving of models and celebrities.

His design signature: "clothes with emotions"
