Thierry Mugler's ANGEL |
||
|
Angel, by Thierry Mugler - The most popular perfume in France broke all the rules. Too strong for some, too different for others, Angel blazed a trail when came to market. The secret of its success lies in the scent itself and the reactions it provokes: love it or hate it, it won't leave you indifferent. Angel started a perfume revolution. Angel was the first modern perfume to be developed without any floral notes. Instead, Mugler used a chocolate base for his new Eastern-inspired perfume, with elements of candyfloss and patchouli. Even the box moved away from the usual colour-coding for women's perfume, with a heavenly sky blue, to match the star shaped bottle and celestial scent. Women loved the resulting package and after a slow start in 1992, Angel knocked Chanel off the top of bestseller list in France in 2000. This is not a perfume which followed fashion, it set its own "Oriental-inspired gourmand". Why a star-shaped bottle? " I loved shooting stars when I was a child. They seemed like a presence from far away, very real, beautiful and magical." explaines Thierry Mugler. "I called my perfume Angel, as Angels can be both good and bad" said the designer. The fragrance is made up of three main elements:-Celestial notes: Bergamot, Peach, Passion Fruit; -Rich notes: Honeyed fruit; -Oriental notes: Patchouli, Vanilla, Caramel, Chocolate. |
