chanel for fall winter 2008/2009 collection
Chanel Automme – Hiver 2008/2009 took place at the Palais Royal from Paris. Karl Lagerfeld opted for a merry-go-round set. Carousels along with the Eiffel Tower are the symbols of the picturesque Paris. “It’s all about playing”, Lagerfeld said.
Luxury and severe opulence are the terms that dictate the style of this fall – winter collection.
Since his appointment, Lagerfeld has continued to reference the Chanel style, sometimes offering classic interpretations and other times making witty and ironic statements.
While Coco Chanel looked to the utilitarian dress of the working woman, Lagerfeld derived his ideas from contemporary social subcultures.
The tweed suit continues to be a mainstay of the collections, satisfying classic tastes with cardigan styles and the more adventurous younger client with tweed bra tops.
Karl Lagerfeld new gig is to make sure that it is classic, but brand new and the younger generation will be wearing it.
Once again Chanel House is maintaining its classic references to black: black tweed, black knits, black leather, black stockings, and black jeweled berets. Lagerfeld manages in his unique style to create simple designs without being boring.
