This season, Alexander McQueen has brought Queen Elizabeth the 1st and the Mongol princess up to the stage of the fashion show.
“The girl who lived in the tree” is the name of McQueen collection. “I've got a 600-year-old elm tree in my garden," he said, "and I made up this story of a girl who lives in it and comes out of the darkness to meet a prince and become a queen.”
The show is a breathtaking fairy tale. Two different motifs: the first has revealed a somber yet powerful style with black dresses, flounces, tulle skirts and skinny trousers; and the second one has managed to amaze the watcher. Flat shoes with South Asian influences, fine silk brocade, stunning dresses encrusted with jewels, velvet jacket, imperial red, antique Indian diadems and diamond neckpieces.
All of these elements are part of Alexander McQueen dreamlike world.
Extravagance and smoothness, light and somber, tranquility and anger, feminine and romance, royal and clean; these are the ingredients which combines the reality and the fairy tale into a Alexander McQueen revelation.
Obviously his goal is “to offer haute couture pieces as an integral part of ready-to-wear collection”.
