The 35th edition of the annual Pirelli Calendar for 2008 is a dedication to China. Every year Pirelli made exceptional calendar featuring beautiful models having certain themes.

This year the shoot took place in Shanghai with Patrick Demarchelier, a legendary name in fashion and fine art photography. “The Call” reveals a “mix between the West and the Orient: an interesting group of faces”, as Patrick said.

"Very often I find Western people seem to go for the more cliché Chinese faces: long hair, slanted eyes. All that has changed I think. Many Chinese women are graceful; I think we have an inner grace that’s more rare than you find in the West," affirmed Maggie Cheung, the well-known Chinese actress.

The models that had filled the Pirelli Calendar are some of the fashion’s hottest faces: Catherine McNeil, Mo Van Dan, Doutzen Kroes, Gemma Ward, Lily Donaldson, Agyness Dein, Coco Rocha, Sasha Pivovarova, Du Juan, Maggie Cheung, and Caroline Torentini.

For the background Demarchelier has chosen the picturesque streets of the old French Concession, the splendid gardens of the former British Legation, the mysterious and sensual atmosphere of the forbidden China, and the characteristic tea houses.

The shoots for Pirelli 2009 have already been taken in the Botswana Okavango Delta in a luxury Elephant-Camp during first week of May 2008.
